WISCONSIN FORECLOSURES JUMP 26 PERCENT IN AUGUST

State’s Activity 131 Percent Higher Than a Year Ago

 

IRVINE, Calif. – August 31, 2006 – Wisconsin reported 723 properties entering some stage of the foreclosure process in August, a 25 percent spike in activity from the 575 properties reported in July, and soaring 131 percent above the 313 properties reported for the same month last year, according to the RealtyTrac™ August 2006 U.S. Foreclosure Market Report.

“Even with the recent jump in foreclosure activity within the state, Wisconsin‘s rate of foreclosures remains well below the national average,” said James J. Saccacio, chief executive officer of RealtyTrac. “Home sales within the state are down as is home price appreciation, which could be contributing to the recent spike in foreclosure activity.”

 

Wisconsin ranked 24th in the country in total foreclosures reported for August. The state’s foreclosure rate of one new foreclosure filing for every 3,185 households — 32 percent of the national average — ranks it 31st among the 50 states.

 

Three counties account for largest share of state total

Total foreclosure activity in three counties accounted for 55 percent of all activity in the state for August, led by Milwaukee County reporting 268 properties entering some stage of the foreclosure process. Brown County had the second highest total, reporting 74 properties entering some stage of the foreclosure process, followed by Racine County where 53 properties entered some stage of the foreclosure process.

 

Highest foreclosure rate reported in Douglas County

Douglas County posted the state’s highest foreclosure rate in August, with one new foreclosure filing for every 1,018 households — 3.1 times the state average and on par with the national average. Reporting one new foreclosure filing for every 1,155 households — 2.8 times the state average and 90 percent of the national average — Saint Croix County had the second highest foreclosure rate in the state, followed by Sauk County reporting one new foreclosure filing for every 1,157 households.

 

State has little impact on national total

Wisconsin‘s foreclosure activity accounted for less than 1 percent of the 115,292 properties entering some stage of the foreclosure process nationwide in August. The national total represents a 24 percent increase from the 92,845 foreclosures reported in July. The nation’s foreclosure rate increased to one new foreclosure filing for every 1,003 households during the month.
