OREGON FORECLOSURES DROP 56 PERCENT IN JULY

ACCORDING TO REALTYTRAC™ U.S. FORECLOSURE MARKET REPORT

 

State’s Activity Up 17 Percent From a Year Ago

 

IRVINE, Calif. – July 31, 2006 – Oregon reported 603 properties entering some stage of the foreclosure process in July, a 56 percent decrease in activity from the 1,381 properties reported in June, but a 17 percent increase from the 514 properties reported for the same month last year, according to the RealtyTrac™ July 2006 U.S. Foreclosure Market Report.

“After reaching a high point in May, Oregon foreclosures appear to be moving back down to the levels they were at the beginning of this year,” said James J. Saccacio, chief executive officer of RealtyTrac.  “Home price appreciation continues to exceed the national average in the state even though home sales have declined.  This, in additional to strong levels of employment growth, is likely driving foreclosures back down.”

 

Oregon ranked 24th in the nation for total foreclosures in July.  The state’s foreclosure rate of one new foreclosure filing for every 2,414 households — 52 percent of the national average — ranks it 25th among the 50 states.

 

Multnomah County Accounted for Largest Share of State Total

Leading the state in foreclosures for the month was Multnomah County, reporting 160 properties entering some stage of the foreclosure process.  Washington County came in second reporting 80 properties, followed by Clackamas County where 68 properties entered some stage of the foreclosure process.  

 

Highest Foreclosure Rate Posted in Polk County

Polk County posted the state’s highest foreclosure rate in July, reporting one new foreclosure filing for every 1,439 households – 1.7 times the state average.  Reporting one new foreclosure filing for every 1,441 households – 1.7 times the state average – Yamhill County had the second highest foreclosure rate, followed by Linn County with one new foreclosure filing for every 1,517 households – 1.6 times the state average.

 

State Accounts for 0.6 Percent of National Total

Oregon‘s foreclosure activity accounted for 0.6 percent of the 92,845 properties entering some stage of the foreclosure process nationwide in July. The national total represents a 5 percent increase from the 88,194 foreclosures reported in June. The nation’s foreclosure rate increased to one new foreclosure filing for every 1,245 households during the month.
