OKLAHOMA FORECLOSURES DECREASE 15 PERCENT IN APRIL

Market Activity Down 16 Percent From a Year Ago

Canadian County Posts State’s Highest Foreclosure Rate

 

IRVINE, Calif. – May 31, 2006 – Oklahoma reported 1,156 properties entering some stage of foreclosure in April, a 15 percent decline from the previous month and a 16 percent drop from the 1,379 foreclosures reported in April 2005, according to RealtyTrac’s April 2006 U.S. Foreclosure Market Report.

“Robust economic growth in Oklahoma continues to keep the state’s foreclosure rate low,” said James J. Saccacio, chief executive officer of RealtyTrac. “High energy prices have positively affected the state’s mining and natural resources sectors, which is in part responsible for the its economic stability.”

 

With one foreclosure filing for every 1,293 households (slightly below the national average), Oklahoma‘s foreclosure rate ranked 15th among the 50 states. Overall, the state total accounted for just less than 2 percent of the nation’s foreclosures, with 18 states reporting more foreclosures during the month.

 

Reporting 484 properties entering some stage of foreclosure, Oklahoma County, along with Tulsa County reporting 364 properties, accounted for the largest share of state’s foreclosure filings in April. Canadian County had a foreclosure rate of one foreclosure filing for every 566 households, the highest in the state and 2.3 times the state average.

 

Nationwide a total of 91,168 properties entered some stage of foreclosure in April, a 10 percent decrease from the previous month but a 33 percent year-over-year increase from April 2005. This marked the second straight month of decreasing U.S. foreclosure activity. At one foreclosure filing for every 1,268 households, the national foreclosure rate for April was higher than for any month in 2005.
