MARYLAND FORECLOSURES DECREASE 30 PERCENT IN JULY

State’s Activity Down 35 Percent From a Year Ago

 

IRVINE, Calif. – July 31, 2006 – Maryland reported 328 properties entering some stage of the foreclosure process in July, a 30 percent decrease in activity from the 466 properties reported in June, and a 35 percent decrease from the 508 properties reported for the same month last year, according to the RealtyTrac™ July 2006 U.S. Foreclosure Market Report.

Maryland foreclosures are down significantly both in July and from this time last year,” said James J. Saccacio, chief executive officer of RealtyTrac.  “Statistics show that the state’s job growth has exceeded the national average this year and that unemployment is at its lowest point in six years.  These factors are likely contributing to this decrease.”

 

Maryland ranked 31st in the nation for total foreclosures in July.  The state’s foreclosure rate of one new foreclosure filing for every 6,532 households — 19 percent of the national average — ranks it among the ten lowest states.

 

Prince George’s County Accounts for Largest Share of State Total

Leading the state in foreclosures for the month was Prince George‘s County, reporting 124 properties entering some stage of the foreclosure process.  Baltimore County came in second reporting 57 properties, followed by Anne Arundel County where 29 properties entered some stage of the foreclosure process.  

 

Highest Foreclosure Rate Posted in Charles County

Charles County posted the state’s highest foreclosure rate in July, reporting one new foreclosure filing for every 2,091 households – 3.1 times the state average.  Reporting one new foreclosure filing for every 2,131 households – 3.1 times the state average – Calvert County had the second highest foreclosure rate, followed by Prince George‘s County with one new foreclosure filing for every 2,439 households – 2.7 times the state average.  

 

State Accounts for 0.4 Percent of National Total

Maryland‘s foreclosure activity accounted for 0.4 percent of the 92,845 properties entering some stage of the foreclosure process nationwide in July. The national total represents a 5 percent increase from the 88,194 foreclosures reported in June. The nation’s foreclosure rate increased to one new foreclosure filing for every 1,245 households during the month.
