WYOMING FORECLOSURE ACTIVITY DOEN 2 PERCENT IN JANUARY

Yearly Foreclosure Total Up 30 Percent From January 2007

 

IRVINE, Calif. – Feb. 26, 2008 – Wyoming reported 43 foreclosure filings in January, a 2 percent decrease from the previous month, but still a 30 percent increase from January 2007, according to the latest RealtyTrac® U.S. Foreclosure Market Report.

“Although Wyoming foreclosures are down slightly in January, the numbers are up from this time last year,” said James J. Saccacio, chief executive officer of RealtyTrac. “Statistics show that home sales throughout the state declined more than 42 percent last year — the second highest decline in the country. This is undoubtedly contributing to the overall foreclosure rise.”

 

Wyoming ranked 47th in the country in total foreclosures reported for the month. The state’s foreclosure rate of one foreclosure filing for every 5,482 households ranked it 45th among the 50 states.

 

Three counties account for majority of state’s foreclosure total

Three counties accounted for 88 percent of all foreclosure filings in Wyoming for January. Natrona County posted the highest foreclosure total for the month, reporting 26 foreclosure filings. Laramie County posted the second highest foreclosure total, reporting eight foreclosure filings for the month, followed by Sweetwater County with four foreclosure filings.

 

Natrona County posts highest foreclosure rate

Natrona County reported the highest county foreclosure rate in the state for January, one foreclosure filing for every 1,180 households — 4.7 times the state average. Sweetwater County posted the second highest foreclosure rate, one foreclosure filing for every 4,064 households. Park County registered the third highest foreclosure rate, one filing for every 4,228 households.

 

State contributes less than 1 percent to nation’s monthly total

Total foreclosure filings in Wyoming accounted for less than 1 percent of the 233,001 foreclosure filings reported nationwide in January. The national total represents an 8 percent increase from the previous month, and is 57 percent above the total reported for January 2007. The nation’s foreclosure rate increased to one foreclosure filing for every 534 U.S. households for the month.
