WISCONSIN FORECLOSURES DECREASE 15 PERCENT IN MARCH

ACCORDING TO REALTYTRAC™ U.S. FORECLOSURE MARKET REPORT

 

Activity Up 68 Percent From a Year Ago

 

IRVINE, Calif. – April 23, 2007 – Wisconsin reported 827 foreclosure filings in March, a 15 percent decrease from the previous month, and a 68 percent increase from March 2006, according to the latest RealtyTrac™ U.S. Foreclosure Market Report.

“Although Wisconsin foreclosures have decreased in March, the numbers are up significantly since this time last year,” said James J. Saccacio, chief executive officer of RealtyTrac. “Statistics show that the state’s home price appreciation rate for 2006 was 30 percent lower than the national average and that its most recent unemployment rate was 10 percent higher. These factors are very likely contributing to the overall increase.”

 

Wisconsin ranked 24th in the country in total foreclosures for March. The state’s foreclosure rate of one foreclosure filing for every 2,785 households ranks it 38th among the 50 states.

 

Milwaukee County accounts for largest share of state total

Milwaukee County reported the highest foreclosure total for the month, with 279 foreclosure filings. Dane County reported the second highest foreclosure total, with 78 foreclosure filings, followed by Waukesha County with 62 foreclosure filings.

 

Waupaca County posts highest foreclosure rate

Waupaca County posted the highest foreclosure rate in Wisconsin for March, reporting one foreclosure filing for every 776 households — 3.6 times the state average. Jefferson County reported the second highest foreclosure rate, with one foreclosure filing for every 885 households — 3.2 times the state average.  Sauk County reported the third highest foreclosure rate, with one foreclosure filing for every 1,104 households — 2.5 times the state average. 

 

State contributes 1 percent to national total

Total foreclosure filings in Wisconsin accounted for 1 percent of the 149,150 foreclosure filings nationwide. The national total was up almost 7 percent from the previous month, and surged 47 percent from March 2006. The nation’s foreclosure rate increased to one foreclosure filing for every 775 U.S. households during the month.
