WISCONSIN FORECLOSURES DECREASE 10 PERCENT IN JUNE

ACCORDING TO REALTYTRAC™ U.S. FORECLOSURE MARKET REPORT

 

Activity Up 161 Percent From June 2006

 

IRVINE, Calif. – July 31, 2007 – Wisconsin reported 927 foreclosure filings in June, a 10 percent decrease from the previous month, but still 161 percent above the number reported in June 2006, according to the latest RealtyTrac® U.S. Foreclosure Market Report.

“The effects of Wisconsin’s sluggish employment growth are still being seen in the form of elevated foreclosure activity compared to last year,” said James J. Saccacio, chief executive officer of RealtyTrac. “Still, the state is now reporting a slight decrease in foreclosure activity compared to one month earlier and its rate of foreclosures remains well below the national average.”

 

Wisconsin ranked 25th in the country in total foreclosures reported for June. The state’s foreclosure rate of one foreclosure filing for every 2,504 households ranked it 32nd among the 50 states.

 

Milwaukee County leads state in foreclosure activity

Milwaukee County led the state in foreclosure activity for June, reporting 305 foreclosure filings. Dane County reported the second highest county total with 89 foreclosure filings. Brown County came in third with 57 foreclosure filings for the month.

 

Saint Croix County posts highest foreclosure rate

Saint Croix County posted the highest foreclosure rate in the state, with one foreclosure filing for every 656 households — 3.8 times the state average and 1.1 times the national average. Dodge County posted the second highest foreclosure rate in the state, with one foreclosure filing for every 748 households — 3.4 times the state average. Winnebago County posted the third highest foreclosure rate, with one foreclosure filing for every 1,156 households — 2.2 times the state average.

 

State a minor contributor to national total

Total foreclosure filings in Wisconsin accounted for less than 1 percent of the 164,644 foreclosure filings nationwide in June. The national total was down 7 percent from the previous month but still up 87 percent from June 2006. The nation’s foreclosure rate decreased to one foreclosure filing for every 704 U.S. households for the month.
