WEST VIRGINIA FORECLOSURE ACTIVITY DOWN 44 PERCENT IN OCTOBER

Foreclosure Activity Down 39 Percent From October 2006

 

IRVINE, Calif. – Nov. 26, 2007 – West Virginia reported 48 foreclosure filings in October, a 44 percent decrease for the previous month, and a 39 percent decrease from October 2006, according to the latest RealtyTrac® U.S. Foreclosure Market Report.

West Virginia foreclosures are down both in October and from this time last year,” said James J. Saccacio, chief executive officer of RealtyTrac. “Statistics show that the state’s home price appreciation rate was higher than the national average last year. This is likely helping to keep foreclosures here so low.”

 

West Virginia ranked among the five lowest states in total foreclosures for the month. The state’s foreclosure rate of one foreclosure filing for every 18,171 households ranked it again among the five lowest states.

 

Kanawha County reports biggest foreclosure total

Kanawha County reported 13 foreclosure filings, the most of any county in October. Raleigh and Wood counties each reported six foreclosure filings for the month.

 

Tyler County leads state in foreclosure rate

Tyler County reported the highest foreclosure rate in West Virginia for October, with one foreclosure filing for every 4,871 households — 3.7 times the state average. Raleigh County posted the second highest foreclosure rate, with one foreclosure filing for every 6,073 households — three times the state average. Mineral County posted the third highest foreclosure rate, with one foreclosure filing for every 6,410 households — 2.8 times the state average.

 

State minor contributor to national total

Total foreclosure filings in West Virginia accounted for less than 1 percent of the 224,451 foreclosure filings nationwide in October. The national total represents a 2 percent increase from the previous month and is still 94 percent above the total reported for October 2006. The nation’s foreclosure rate is one foreclosure filing for every 555 U.S. households for the month.
