VERMONT FORECLOSURES INCREASE 60 PERCENT IN JUNE

ACCORDING TO REALTYTRAC™ U.S. FORECLOSURE MARKET REPORT

IRVINE, Calif. – July 31, 2007 – Vermont reported eight foreclosure filings in June, a 60 percent increase from the previous month, and the same number reported in June 2006, according to the latest RealtyTrac® U.S. Foreclosure Market Report.

“Although Vermont foreclosures increased in June, the state currently holds the lowest foreclosure rate nationwide,” said James J. Saccacio, chief executive officer of RealtyTrac. “With low unemployment and a steady home price appreciation rate, it is likely that foreclosures here will remain scarce.”

 

Vermont held the lowest total foreclosures in the country for June. The state’s foreclosure rate of one foreclosure filing for every 36,798 households ranked it the lowest state again.

 

Chittenden County leads in foreclosure activity for June

Chittenden County led the state in foreclosure activity for June, reporting four foreclosure filings. Orleans and Rutland Counties reported the second highest county total, each reporting one foreclosure filing for the month.

 

Orleans County posts highest foreclosure rate

Orleans County posted the highest foreclosure rate in the state, with one foreclosure filing for every 14,673 households — 2.5 times the state average. Chittenden County posted the second highest foreclosure rate in the state, with one foreclosure filing for every 14,716 households — 2.5 times the state average. Washington County posted the third highest foreclosure rate, with one foreclosure filing for every 27,644 households — 1.3 times the state average.

 

State contributes less than 1 percent to national total

Total foreclosure filings in Vermont accounted for less than 1 percent of the 164,644 foreclosure filings nationwide in June. The national total was down 7 percent from the previous month but still up 87 percent from June 2006. The nation’s foreclosure rate decreased to one foreclosure filing for every 704 U.S. households for the month.
