SOUTH DAKOTA FORECLOSURE ACTIVITY UP 16 PERCENT IN NOVEMBER

ACCORDING TO REALTYTRAC® U.S. FORECLOSURE MARKET REPORT

 

Yearly Foreclosure Total Down 29 Percent From November 2006

 

IRVINE, Calif. – Dec. 19, 2007 – South Dakota reported 22 foreclosure filings in November, a 16 percent increase from the previous month, and a 29 percent decrease from November 2006, according to the latest RealtyTrac® U.S. Foreclosure Market Report.

Although South Dakota foreclosures have increased in November, the numbers are down from this time last year,” said James J. Saccacio, chief executive officer of RealtyTrac. “The state holds one of the lowest unemployment rates and that its home price appreciation rate is above the national average. These factors are likely contributing to the overall decline.”

 

South Dakota ranked the second lowest state in total foreclosures reported for the month. The state’s foreclosure rate of one foreclosure filing for every 15,815 households ranked it 48th among the 50 states.

 

Minnehaha County reports biggest foreclosure total

Minnehaha County reported the highest foreclosure total in South Dakota for November, with 17 foreclosure filings for the month. Pennington County posted the second highest foreclosure total, with two foreclosure filings for the month. Codington, Hamlin and Union counties each reported one foreclosure filing for November.

 

Hamlin County post highest foreclosure rate

Hamlin County reported the highest foreclosure rate in South Dakota for November, one foreclosure filing for every 2,747 households — 5.8 times the state average. Minnehaha County posted the second highest foreclosure rate, one foreclosure filing for every 3,991 households — four times the state average. Union County registered the third highest foreclosure rate, one foreclosure filing for every 5,915 households — 2.7 times the state average.

 

State contributes less than 1 percent to nation’s monthly total

Total foreclosure filings in South Dakota accounted for less than 1 percent of the 201,950 foreclosure filings reported nationwide in November. The national total represents a 10 percent decrease from the previous month, but is still 68 percent above the total reported for November 2006. The nation’s foreclosure rate decreased to one foreclosure filing for every 617 U.S. households for the month.
