OKLAHOMA FORECLOSURE ACTIVITY INCREASES 18 PERCENT IN JULY

ACCORDING TO REALTYTRAC® U.S. FORECLOSURE MARKET REPORT

 

Yearly Total Down 34 Percent From July 2006

 

IRVINE, Calif. – Aug. 24, 2007 – Oklahoma reported 899 foreclosure filings in July, an 18 percent increase from the previous month, and a 34 percent decrease from July 2006, according to the latest RealtyTrac® U.S. Foreclosure Market Report.

Although Oklahoma foreclosures increased in July, the numbers are lower than they were this time last year,” said James J. Saccacio, chief executive officer of RealtyTrac. “Statistics show that the state’s unemployment rate decreased by one percent last year and is currently below the national average. This is likely contributing to the overall decrease.”

 

Oklahoma ranked 26th in the country in total foreclosures reported for the month. The state’s foreclosure rate of one foreclosure filing for every 1,767 households ranked it 22nd among the 50 states.

 

Oklahoma County leads all in foreclosure activity for July

Oklahoma County led the state in foreclosure activity for July, reporting 384 foreclosure filings. Tulsa County reported the second highest county total with 340 foreclosure filings. Canadian County reported the third highest county total, with 61 foreclosure filings, followed by fourth place Mayes County, with 23 foreclosure filings entering some part of the foreclosure pipeline. Grady County reported the fifth highest county total with 12 foreclosure filings.

 

Canadian County posts highest foreclosure rate

Canadian County reported the highest foreclosure rate in the state for July, with a rate of one foreclosure filing for every 627 households — 2.8 times the state average. Tulsa County posted the second highest rate, with one foreclosure filing for every 754 households — 2.3 times the state average. Mayes County posted the third highest foreclosure rate, with one foreclosure filing for every 786 households — 2.3 times the state average. Oklahoma County came in fourth with a foreclosure rate of one foreclosure filing for every 814 households — 2.2 times the state average. Logan County rounded out the state’s top five with a rate of one foreclosure filing for every 1,433 households — 1.2 times the state average.

 

State contributes 1 percent to nation’s monthly total

Total foreclosure filings in Oklahoma accounted for 1 percent of the 179,599 foreclosure filings nationwide in July. The national total was up 9 percent from the previous month and up 93 percent from July 2006. The nation’s foreclosure rate increased to one foreclosure filing for every 693 U.S. households for the month.
