NORTH CAROLINA FORECLOSURES DECREASE 37 PERCENT IN JUNE

ACCORDING TO REALTYTRAC™ U.S. FORECLOSURE MARKET REPORT

 

Activity Up 45 Percent From June 2006

 

IRVINE, Calif. – July 31, 2007 – North Carolina reported 1,943 foreclosure filings in June, a 37 percent decrease from the previous month, but still 45 percent above the number reported in June 2006, according to the latest RealtyTrac® U.S. Foreclosure Market Report.

“Employment growth in North Carolina remains slightly elevated, though foreclosure activity remains high compared to this time last year,” said James J. Saccacio, chief executive officer of RealtyTrac. “Still, the state is reporting a decrease in activity compared to last month, indicating some improvement.”

 

North Carolina ranked 19th in the country in total foreclosures reported for June. The state’s foreclosure rate of one new foreclosure filing for every 1,814 households ranked 27th among the 50 states.

 

Mecklenburg County leads all in foreclosure activity for June

Mecklenburg County led the state in foreclosure activity for June, reporting 463 filings. Wake County reported the second highest foreclosure total with 200 foreclosure filings. Gaston County came in third with 129 foreclosure filings for the month.

 

Gaston County posts highest foreclosure rate

Gaston County posted the highest foreclosure rate in the state, with one foreclosure filing for every 611 households — three times the state average and 1.2 times the national average. Mecklenburg County posted the second highest foreclosure rate in the state, with one foreclosure filing for every 632 households — 2.9 times the state average. Vance County posted the third highest foreclosure rate, with one foreclosure filing for every 700 households — 2.6 times the state average.

 

State makes minor contribution to national total

Total foreclosure filings in North Carolina accounted for 1 percent of the 164,644 foreclosure filings nationwide in June. The national total was down 7 percent from the previous month but still up 87 percent from June 2006. The nation’s foreclosure rate decreased to one foreclosure filing for every 704 U.S. households for the month.
