NEW MEXICO FORECLOSURE ACTIVITY DECREASES 17 PERCENT IN JULY

ACCORDING TO REALTYTRAC® U.S. FORECLOSURE MARKET REPORT

 

Activity Down 27 Percent From July 2006

 

IRVINE, Calif. – Aug. 24, 2007 – New Mexico reported 147 foreclosure filings in July, a 17 percent decrease from the previous month, and 27 percent below the number reported in July 2006, according to the latest RealtyTrac® U.S. Foreclosure Market Report.

“With New Mexico recently reporting its lowest unemployment rate on record, it comes as no surprise that the state’s foreclosure activity is also declining,” said James J. Saccacio, chief executive officer of RealtyTrac.

 

New Mexico ranked 40th in the country in total foreclosures reported for July. The state’s foreclosure rate of one foreclosure filing for every 5,705 households ranked 44th among the 50 states.

 

Bernalillo County leads state in foreclosure activity

Bernalillo County reported 42 foreclosure filings, the most of any county for the month. Sandoval County was second, reporting 38 foreclosure filings for the month. Valencia reported the third highest total, 21 foreclosure filings.

 

Sandoval County posts highest foreclosure rate

Sandoval County reported the highest county foreclosure rate in the state for July, with a rate of one foreclosure filing for every 1,073 households — 5.3 times the state average. Valencia County posted the second highest foreclosure rate, with one foreclosure filing for every 1,239 households — 4.6 times the state average. Otero County posted the third highest foreclosure rate, with one foreclosure filing for every 3,371 households — 1.7 times the state average.

 

State a minor contributor to nation’s monthly total

Total foreclosure filings in New Mexico accounted for less than 1 percent of the 179,599 foreclosure filings nationwide in July. The national total was up 9 percent from the previous month and up 93 percent from July 2006. The nation’s foreclosure rate increased to one foreclosure filing for every 693 U.S. households for the month.
