NEW HAMPSHIRE FORECLOSURE ACTIVITY UP 16 PERCENT IN DECEMBER

Yearly Foreclosure Activity Up 3,958 Percent From December 2006

 

IRVINE, Calif. – Jan. 25, 2008 – New Hampshire reported 487 foreclosure filings in December, a 16 percent increase from the previous month, and a 3,958 percent increase from December 2006, according to the latest RealtyTrac® U.S. Foreclosure Market Report.

“Even with employment up in New Hampshire and the tourism industry seen as a bright spot, foreclosure activity remains high, especially compared to the same time last year,” said James J. Saccacio, chief executive officer of RealtyTrac.

 

New Hampshire ranked 33rd in the country in total foreclosures reported for December. The state’s foreclosure rate of one foreclosure filing for every 1,198 households ranked it 23rd among the 50 states.

 

Hillsborough County leads state in foreclosure filings

Hillsborough County led New Hampshire in total foreclosure activity for December, reporting 177 foreclosure filings for the month. Rockingham County reported the second highest foreclosure total, reporting 152 foreclosure filings. Strafford County came in third with 40 foreclosure filings, followed by Cheshire County, which posted 24 foreclosure filings for the month.

 

Rockingham County posts highest foreclosure rate for December

Rockingham County led the state with the highest foreclosure rate, one foreclosure filing for every 799 households — 1.5 times the state average. Hillsborough County came in second with a rate of one foreclosure filing for every 900 households — 1.3 times the state average.  Strafford County posted the third highest foreclosure rate, one foreclosure filing for every 1,228 households.

 

State makes minor contribution to nation’s total in December

Total foreclosure filings in New Hampshire accounted for less than 1 percent of the 215,749 foreclosure filings reported nationwide in December. The national total represents a 7 percent increase from the previous month, and is 97 percent above the total reported for December 2006. The nation’s foreclosure rate increased to one foreclosure filing for every 577 U.S. households for the month.
