NEBRASKA FORECLOSURES DECREASE 3 PERCENT IN MAY

ACCORDING TO REALTYTRAC™ U.S. FORECLOSURE MARKET REPORT

 

Activity Up 77 Percent From a Year Earlier

 

IRVINE, Calif. – June 15, 2007 – Nebraska reported 265 foreclosure filings in May, a 3 percent decrease in activity from the previous month, but still a 77 increase from May 2006, according to the latest RealtyTrac™ U.S. Foreclosure Market Report.

Nebraska’s economy remains strong and employment gains are being reported across many sectors,” said James J. Saccacio, chief executive officer of RealtyTrac. Though foreclosure activity appears to be on the rise compared to this time last year, the state’s foreclosure rate remains below the national average.”

 

Nebraska ranked 38th in the country in total foreclosures reported for May. The state posted the 37th highest foreclosure rate in the country for the month — one foreclosure filing for every 2,711 households.

 

Bulk of state total found in two counties

Foreclosure filings in two Nebraska counties accounted for 83 percent of all foreclosure activity in the state for May. Douglas County led the state, reporting 160 foreclosure filings for the month. Lancaster County came in second, reporting 60 foreclosure filings. Sarpy County posted the state’s third highest foreclosure total, reporting 24 foreclosure filings.

 

Douglas County leads state in foreclosure rate for the month

Douglas County posted the highest foreclosure rate in the state for May — one foreclosure filing for every 1,204 households — 2.3 times the state average. Gosper County tallied the state’s second highest rate — one foreclosure filing for every 1,281 households — 2.1 times the state average. Lancaster County posted the third highest foreclosure rate, with one foreclosure filing for every 1,737 households — 1.6 times the state average.

 

State makes small contribution to national total for May

Total foreclosure filings in Nebraska accounted for less than 1 percent of the 176,137 foreclosure filings nationwide. The national total was up 19 percent from the previous month, and up 90 percent from May 2006. The nation’s foreclosure rate increased to one foreclosure filing for every 656 U.S. households during the month.
