NEBRASKA FORECLOSURE ACTIVITY UP 43 PERCENT IN NOVEMBER

ACCORDING TO REALTYTRAC® U.S. FORECLOSURE MARKET REPORT

 

Yearly Total Down 9 Percent From November 2006

 

IRVINE, Calif. – Dec. 19, 2007 – Nebraska reported 484 foreclosure filings in November, a 43 percent increase from the previous month, and a 9 percent decrease from November 2006, according to the latest RealtyTrac® U.S. Foreclosure Market Report.

“Although Nebraska foreclosures increased during November, the numbers are down from this time last year,” said James J. Saccacio, chief executive officer of RealtyTrac. “Statistics show that the state’s home sales have declined at a slower rate than most of the country. This, in addition to a low unemployment rate, is likely contributing to the overall decline.”

 

Nebraska ranked 35th in the country in total foreclosures reported for the month. The state’s foreclosure rate of one foreclosure filing for every 1,585 households ranked it 30th among the 50 states.

 

Douglas County accounts for bulk of state’s foreclosure activity

Douglas County reported the highest foreclosure total in Nebraska for November, with 286 foreclosure filings for the month. Lancaster County posted the second highest foreclosure total, with 91 foreclosure filings for the month. Sarpy County registered the third highest foreclosure total, with 57 foreclosure filings.

 

Washington County reports highest foreclosure rate

Washington County reported the highest foreclosure rate in Nebraska for November, one foreclosure filing for every 317 households — five times the state average and 1.9 times the national average. Douglas County reported the second highest foreclosure rate, one foreclosure filing for every 721 households — 2.2 times the state average. Sarpy County reported the third highest foreclosure rate, one foreclosure filing for every 957 households — 1.7 times the state average.

 

State contributes less than 1 percent to nation’s monthly total

Total foreclosure filings in Nebraska accounted for less than 1 percent of the 201,950 foreclosure filings reported nationwide in November. The national total represents a 10 percent decrease from the previous month, but is still 68 percent above the total reported for November 2006. The nation’s foreclosure rate decreased to one foreclosure filing for every 617 U.S. households for the month.
