KENTUCKY FORECLOSURE ACTIVITY UP 41 PERCENT IN AUGUST

ACCORDING TO REALTYTRAC™ U.S. FORECLOSURE MARKET REPORT

 

Activity Increases 4 Percent From August 2006

 

IRVINE, Calif. – Sept. 21, 2007 – Kentucky reported 911 foreclosure filings in August, a 41 percent increase from the previous month, and 4 percent above the number reported in August 2006, according to the latest RealtyTrac® U.S. Foreclosure Market Report. The state’s foreclosure rate — one foreclosure filing for every 2,048 households — was the 34th highest in the nation.

“Though job growth remains steady across The Bluegrass State’s service sectors, its foreclosure activity remains elevated compared to a month ago and to the same time last year,” said James J. Saccacio, chief executive officer of RealtyTrac.

 

Kentucky ranked 28th in the country in total foreclosures reported for August.

 

Jefferson County leads state in foreclosure total

Jefferson County led the state with 575 foreclosure filings for the month. Kenton County reported the second highest foreclosure total, with 118 foreclosure filings. Fayette County came in third highest, with 58 foreclosure filings. Campbell County had the fourth highest foreclosure total, with 49 filings entering some part of the foreclosure pipeline.

 

Jefferson County posts highest foreclosure rate

Jefferson County topped the list of highest county foreclosure rate in the state for August, with one foreclosure filing for every 561 households — 3.7 times the state average. Kenton County posted the second highest foreclosure rate, with one foreclosure filing for every 579 households — 3.5 times the state average. Christian County posted the third highest foreclosure rate in the state, with one foreclosure filing for every 635 households — 3.2 times the state average. Campbell County had the fourth highest foreclosure rate, with one foreclosure filing for every 784 households — 2.6 times the state average.

 

State a minor contributor to national total

Kentucky accounted for less than 1 percent of the 243,947 foreclosure filings nationwide in August. The national total represents a 36 percent increase from the previous month and is up 115 percent from August 2006. The nation’s foreclosure rate increased to one foreclosure filing for every 510 U.S. households for the month.
