IOWA FORECLOSURE ACTIVITY DOWN 6 PERCENT IN SEPTEMBER

Yearly Foreclosure Total Up 337Percent From September 2006

 

IRVINE, Calif. – Oct. 26, 2007 – Iowa reported 769 foreclosure filings in September, a 6 percent decrease from the previous month, but still a 337 percent increased from September 2006, according to the latest RealtyTrac® U.S. Foreclosure Market Report.

“Although Iowa foreclosures are up more than four times what they were this time last year, the numbers are still below the national average,” said James J. Saccacio, chief executive officer of RealtyTrac. “Statistics show that while the state’s unemployment rate is still below the national average, it has risen significantly during the past year. This may have contributed to the overall increase.”

 

Iowa ranked 29th in the country in total foreclosures for the month. The state’s foreclosure rate of one foreclosure filing for every 1,700 households ranked it 33rd among the 50 states.

 

Polk County reports biggest foreclosure total

Polk County documented the highest foreclosure total in Iowa for September, with 319 foreclosure filings. Linn County posted the second highest foreclosure total, reporting 86 foreclosure filings for the month. Scott County reported the third highest foreclosure total, with 81 foreclosure filings.

 

Fremont County leads state in foreclosure rate

Fremont County reported the highest foreclosure rate in the state for September, with one foreclosure filing for every 508 households — 3.4 times the state average. Polk County posted the second highest foreclosure rate, with one foreclosure filing for every 554 households — 3.1 times the state average. Wright County posted the third highest foreclosure rate, with one foreclosure filing for every 733 households — 2.3 times the state average.

 

State contributes less than 1 percent to nation’s monthly total

Total foreclosure filings in Iowa accounted for less than 1 percent of the 223,538 foreclosure filings nationwide in September. The national total represents an 8 percent decrease from the previous month but is still 99 percent above the total reported for September 2006. The nation’s foreclosure rate increased to one foreclosure filing for every 557 U.S. households for the month.
