INDIANA FORECLOSURE ACTIVITY UP 12 PERCENT IN AUGUST

ACCORDING TO REALTYTRAC™ U.S. FORECLOSURE MARKET REPORT

Activity Increases 41 Percent From August 2006; Rate in Nation’s Top 10

IRVINE, Calif. – Sept. 21, 2007 – Indiana reported 5,008 foreclosure filings in August, up 12 percent from the previous month and a 41 percent increase from August 2006, according to the latest RealtyTrac® U.S. Foreclosure Market Report. The state’s foreclosure rate — one foreclosure filing for every 544 households — was the 10th highest in the nation.

RealtyTrac publishes the largest and most comprehensive national database of foreclosure and bank-owned properties, with over 1 million properties from nearly 2,500 counties across the country, and is the foreclosure data provider to MSN Real Estate, Yahoo! Real Estate and The Wall Street Journal’s Real Estate Journal.

“Foreclosure activity was up significantly in August and is above the level reported for this time last year,” said James J. Saccacio, chief executive officer of RealtyTrac. “Unemployment has been increasing in the state over the past few months. The effects of this trend are apparent as the number of foreclosures within the state rises.”

Indiana ranked 12th in the country in total foreclosures reported for August, far behind national leader California which reported 57,875 foreclosure filings for the month and second place Florida with 33,932 foreclosure filings.

Marion County accounts for nearly half of all foreclosure activity

Marion County led the state with 2,247 foreclosure filings, 45 percent of all filings in the state for August. St. Joseph County reported the second highest state total with 412 foreclosure filings. Lake County came in third with 382 foreclosure filings. Allen County had the fourth highest county total with 310 filings entering some stage of the foreclosure pipeline.

Marion County posts highest foreclosure rate for August

With one foreclosure filing for every 183 households — three times the state average and 2.8 times the national average — Marion County posted the highest county foreclosure rate in the state for August. Second highest rate was tallied in Madison County, one foreclosure filing for every 248 households — 2.2 times the state average and 2.1 times the national average. St. Joseph County posted the third highest rate in the state, one foreclosure filing for every 272 households — twice the state average and 1.9 times the national average. Hancock County had the fourth highest rate, one foreclosure filing for every 350 households — 1.6 times the state average and 1.5 times the national average.

State a significant contributor to national total

Total foreclosure filings in Indiana accounted for 2 percent of the 243,947 foreclosure filings nationwide in August. The national total represents a 36 percent increase from the previous month and is up 115 percent from August 2006. The nation’s foreclosure rate increased to one foreclosure filing for every 510 U.S. households for the month.

The RealtyTrac Monthly U.S. Foreclosure Market Report provides the total number of foreclosure filings — both nationwide and by state — over the preceding month. RealtyTrac’s report includes properties in all three phases of foreclosure: Defaults — Notice of Default (NOD) and Lis Pendens (LIS); Auctions — Notice of Trustee Sale and Notice of Foreclosure Sale (NTS and NFS); and Real Estate Owned, or REO properties (that have been foreclosed on and repurchased by a bank).
