IDAHO FORECLOSURE ACTIVITY UP 4 PERCENT IN DECEMBER

Yearly Foreclosure Total Up 768 Percent From December 2006

 

IRVINE, Calif. – Jan. 25, 2008 – Idaho reported 694 foreclosure filings in December, a 4 percent increase from the previous month, and a 768 percent increase from December 2006, according to the latest RealtyTrac® U.S. Foreclosure Market Report.

Idaho foreclosures are up significantly since this time last year,” said James J. Saccacio, chief executive officer of RealtyTrac. “Statistics show that home sales in the northern part of the state fell as much as 18 percent last year. This is likely contributing to the overall rise.”

 

Idaho ranked 29th in the country in total foreclosures reported for December. The state’s foreclosure rate of one foreclosure filing for every 858 households ranked it 19th among the 50 states.

 

Ada County leads state in foreclosure filings

Ada County led Idaho in total foreclosure activity for December, reporting 264 foreclosure filings for the month. Canyon County tallied the second highest foreclosure total, reporting 177 foreclosure filings for the month, followed by Kootenai County which posted 75 foreclosure filings.

 

Canyon County posts highest foreclosure rate

Canyon County reported the highest foreclosure rate in the state for December, one foreclosure filing for every 342 households — 2.5 times the state average and 1.7 times the national average. Ada County came in second with a foreclosure rate of one foreclosure filing for every 535 households — 1.6 times the state average. Power County posted the third highest foreclosure rate, one filing for every 595 households — 1.4 times the state average.

 

State contributes less than 1 percent to nation’s monthly total

Total foreclosure filings in Idaho accounted for less than 1 percent of the 215,749 foreclosure filings reported nationwide in December. The national total represents a 7 percent increase from the previous month, and is 97 percent above the total reported for December 2006. The nation’s foreclosure rate decreased to one foreclosure filing for every 577 U.S. households for the month.
