ARKANSAS FORECLOSURES DECREASE 2 PERCENT IN AUGUST

ACCORDING TO REALTYTRAC™ U.S. FORECLOSURE MARKET REPORT

Activity Up 18 Percent From August 2006

IRVINE, Calif. – Sept. 21, 2007 – Arkansas reported 1,025 foreclosure filings in August, a 2 percent decrease from the previous month and 18 percent above the number reported in August 2006, according to the latest RealtyTrac® U.S. Foreclosure Market Report.

RealtyTrac publishes the largest and most comprehensive national database of foreclosure and bank-owned properties, with over 1 million properties from nearly 2,500 counties across the country, and is the foreclosure data provider to MSN Real Estate, Yahoo! Real Estate and The Wall Street Journal’s Real Estate Journal.

“Arkansas’ economic in general, and job growth in particular, are on the decline with losses being reported in the state’s manufacturing, trade, transportation and utilities sectors,” said James J. Saccacio, chief executive officer of RealtyTrac. “Still, the state is seeing a slight month-to-month decline in foreclosure activity.”

Arkansas ranked 27th in the country in total foreclosures reported for August. The state’s foreclosure rate — one foreclosure filing for every 1,219 households — was the 25th highest in the nation.

Pulaski County leads state in foreclosure activity

Pulaski County led the state with 264 foreclosure filings in August. Benton County reported the second highest county total with 125 foreclosure filings. Washington County came in third highest reporting 89 filings entering some stage of the foreclosure pipeline.

Lonoke County posts highest foreclosure rate for August

With one foreclosure filing for every 517 households — 2.4 times the state average and on par with the national average — Lonoke County topped the list of highest county foreclosure rates in the state for August. Second highest rate was recorded in Greene County with one foreclosure filing for every 540 households — 2.3 times the state average. Benton County posted the third highest rate in the state, one foreclosure filing for every 609 households — twice the state average. Pulaski County had the fourth highest rate, one foreclosure filing for every 646 households — 1.9 times the state average.

State a minor contributor to national total

Arkansas accounted for less than 1 percent of the 243,947 foreclosure filings nationwide in August. The national total represents a 36 percent increase from the previous month and is up 115 percent from August 2006. The nation’s foreclosure rate increased to one foreclosure filing for every 510 U.S. households for the month.

The RealtyTrac Monthly U.S. Foreclosure Market Report provides the total number of foreclosure filings — both nationwide and by state — over the preceding month. RealtyTrac’s report includes properties in all three phases of foreclosure: Defaults — Notice of Default (NOD) and Lis Pendens (LIS); Auctions — Notice of Trustee Sale and Notice of Foreclosure Sale (NTS and NFS); and Real Estate Owned, or REO properties (that have been foreclosed on and repurchased by a bank).
