Sleeping Easy: Average Home Prices by Bedroom

Based only on the percentage of each day spent there, your bedroom is the most valuable room in the house. Now, thanks to the latest must-read report from RealtyTrac®, we have data to show just how valuable.

“The average American gets nearly nine hours of sleep each day,” The Washington Post reported last year. Add to that the hours – or minutes – devoted to performing other activities and the benefit of bedrooms rises.

According to the new RealtyTrac report, the average sales price of a two-bedroom home in the United States went from $143,138 in January 2001 to $201,486 in January 2014.  That’s an increase of about 33 percent. That was the same percentage increase for homes with four bedrooms. Homes with three- and five-bedrooms rose around 30 percent during that period, and six-bedroom homes increased less than 25 percent.

Below is the entire list, with both year over year and month over month percentage changes for number of bedrooms by year.
