INDIANA FORECLOSURES DECREASE 14 PERCENT IN JUNE

ACCORDING TO REALTYTRAC™ U.S. FORECLOSURE MARKET REPORT

 

Activity Up 38 Percent From June 2006

 

IRVINE, Calif. – July 31, 2007 – Indiana reported 4,112 foreclosure filings in June, a 14 percent decrease from the previous month, but still 38 percent above the number reported in June 2006, according to the latest RealtyTrac® U.S. Foreclosure Market Report.

“Even with a declining employment rate, Indiana’s foreclosure activity is improving,” said James J. Saccacio, chief executive officer of RealtyTrac. “Foreclosures are down within the state compared to last month, though more improvement is needed to bring the state in line with this time last year.”

 

Indiana ranked 13th in the country in total foreclosures reported for June. The state’s foreclosure rate of one new foreclosure filing for every 616 households ranked 10th among the 50 states.

 

Marion County leads all in foreclosure activity for June

Marion County led the state in foreclosure activity for June, reporting 1,529 foreclosure filings. Lake County reported the second highest county total with 418 foreclosure filings. Allen County came in third with 367 foreclosure filings for the month.

 

Marion County post highest foreclosure rate

Marion County posted the highest foreclosure rate in the state, with one foreclosure filing for every 253 households — 2.4 times the state average and 2.8 times the national average. Hancock County posted the second highest foreclosure rate in the state, with one foreclosure filing for every 335 households — 1.8 times the state average and 2.1 times the national average. St. Joseph County posted the third highest foreclosure rate, with one foreclosure filing for every 350 households — 1.8 times the state average and twice the national average.

 

State a contributor to national total

Total foreclosure filings in Indiana accounted for 2 percent of the 164,644 foreclosure filings nationwide in June. The national total was down 7 percent from the previous month but still up 87 percent from June 2006. The nation’s foreclosure rate decreased to one foreclosure filing for every 704 U.S. households for the month.
