Distressed Housing Market Outlook: 2014 and Beyond

As the foreclosure crisis winds down and distress in the U.S. housing market returns to more normal and predictable levels, there are still markets running against the grain where foreclosure activity is increasing even while storm clouds of risk threatening more distress hang over the horizon.

I was able to flesh out exactly what that all means at the 2014 National Association of Mortgage Field Services Annual Conference last week in one of two sessions in which I spoke. The second session, titled Three Patterns of REO Activity in the 2014 Housing Market, delved into three discrete state and regional trends emerging when it comes to how different markets are dealing with bank repossessions (REOs).
