DELAWARE FORECLOSURES INCREASE 8 PERCENT IN JUNE

ACCORDING TO REALTYTRAC™ U.S. FORECLOSURE MARKET REPORT

 

Activity Up 24 Percent From June 2006

 

IRVINE, Calif. – July 31, 2007 – Delaware reported 99 foreclosure filings in June, an 8 percent increase from the previous month and 24 percent above the number reported in June 2006, according to the latest RealtyTrac® U.S. Foreclosure Market Report.

Delaware foreclosures have increased both in June and from this time last year,” said James J. Saccacio, chief executive officer of RealtyTrac. “Despite its low unemployment rate, statistics show the state has realized significant job losses in the credit intermediation sector. These job losses may be contributing to the rise in foreclosures.”

 

Delaware ranked among the 10 lowest states in total foreclosures for June. The state’s foreclosure rate of one foreclosure filing for every 3,465 households ranked it 38th among the 50 states.

 

New Castle County accounts for highest share of state total

Foreclosure filings in New Castle County accounted for 86 percent of all foreclosures in the state for June. Reporting 85 foreclosure filings for the month, New Castle County led the state followed by Kent County with eight foreclosure filings, and Sussex County with six filings in the foreclosure pipeline during the month.

 

New Castle County posts highest foreclosure rate

New Castle County also posted the highest foreclosure rate in Delaware for June, reporting one foreclosure filing for every 2,347 households – 1.5 times the state average. Kent County reported the second highest rate with one foreclosure filing for every 6,310 households, followed by Sussex County with one filing for every 15,512 households.

 

State contributes less than 1 percent to national total

Total foreclosure filings in Delaware accounted for less than 1 percent of the 164,644 foreclosure filings nationwide in June. The national total was down 7 percent from the previous month but still up 87 percent from June 2006. The nation’s foreclosure rate decreased to one foreclosure filing for every 704 U.S. households for the month.
