The Ohio State House approved legislation granting a six-month moratorium on foreclosures. The vote went along party lines, with a 54-43 win for the Democrats, according to Cincinnati.com.
The bill still requires approval by the state senate. A spokeswoman for the Republican majority in the senate suggested that they will be taking their time in considering the temporary ban just like the House did.
The power to rewrite loan terms and to allow tenants to remain in homes during foreclosure proceedings were removed from the bill during committee hearings.
The bill has an uphill battle as some lawmakers believe the bill is either unnecessary, doesn’t go far enough or is unconstitutional.
