Local Florida Bill Helps Fight Foreclosures

The Jacksonville City Council Finance Committee approved legislation that will provide assistance to local homeowners facing foreclosure. Responsibility for implementing the measure lies with the city’s Department of Housing and Neighborhoods.

The provisions of the bill allow for establishing a foreclosure assistance link to the city’s website. It also directs the city to obtain a weekly list of lis pendens filings from the clerk of the court to discover who is in the initial stages of foreclosure and then offer them help.

Assistance offered will include both legal and debt counseling services. The city will also mail literature to those in need of assistance directing them where to go for help.
